About the Role

 

You will play a lead role in developing and growing the young people and children’s ministry at Trinity, encouraging all our young people to live with God at the centre of their lives. Working with our staff and volunteers, you’ll also help create opportunities for young people to engage in outreach—bringing the Gospel message of hope and love into our local community.

We are seeking someone who:

 

• Has a heart for helping children and young people grow in their faith and love for Jesus.

• Is friendly, approachable, and able to build strong relationships with children, young people, families, and the wider church.

• Brings creativity, initiative, and the ability to implement new ideas.

• Has experience leading young people and children’s groups in a local church context.

• Can work well within a collaborative staff and volunteer team.

• Shares our vision for intergenerational worship and community outreach.

Job Title: Children and Youth Leader
Reports to: Line Manager (Church Secretary) & Minister
Location: Trinity Church
Salary: £30,000 per annum
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Annual Leave: 20 days (including 5 Sundays) + Statutory Bank Holidays.​

Job Description and Responsibilities


1. Children's and Youth Ministry Leadership
• Plan and lead Sunday groups for secondary aged children.
• Oversee Sunday groups for primary aged children.
• Plan and lead weekly toddler groups.
• Develop clubs and regular youth activities within the church and in the wider community.
• Plan and lead holiday clubs and special events.
• Oversee monthly All-Age services and participate in service planning with ministry team.


2. Spiritual Formation and Discipleship
• Support spiritual growth and Christian formation for children and young people.
• Provide pastoral care to young people and during challenging times.
• Develop and explore URC resources for home-based discipleship tools for parents and caregivers.


3. Community Outreach and Networking
• Build outreach activities and connect with local young people and families.
• Foster partnerships with other churches and organisations that share similar mission goals in supporting young people.
• Promote the church’s children and young people’s work both internally and externally, using age-appropriate social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp).
• Actively participate and contribute to Synod events.


4. Safeguarding and Volunteer Management
• Act as Deputy Safeguarding Officer and DBS Verifier in accordance with current URC Safeguarding Policy (training and support will be provided by the church and synod).
• Ensure compliance with child protection legislation and documentation and r
ecruit, support, train, or arrange training through synod opportunities for volunteers for children and youth ministries.

Person Specification


Due to the nature of this role, we believe this post is subject to an occupational requirement that the holder be a practicing Christian under Part 1 of schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010


Essential:


• Experience in children’s and youth work.
• Passion for working with children and young people in a Christian context.
• Educated to degree or diploma level in youth/children’s ministry or a related field.
• Proven experience in leading and discipling young people.
• Awareness of the culture and challenges facing young people today.
• Self-motivated, creative thinker with initiative.
• Effective team player and leader.
• Confident and able to inspire and lead others.
• Clear and confident communication skills.
• Strong organisational and planning abilities.
• Ability to theologically reflect on ministry with children and young people.
• Approachable and relational with young people, children and families.
• Enhanced DBS clearance and a right to work in the UK 

 

Desirable:


• Theological training or study.
• Experience working as part of a church staff team.
• Experience in developing and leading teams.
• Experience in community partnership building.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and network externally.
• Competent in the use of ICT and communication tools.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding and legal frameworks related to young people and children.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
• Experience with event planning and volunteer coordination.
• A good sense of humour!
